In-Character Information

Name: Chelone / Kiki, Blue's Blastoise.
Game/Series: Pokémon.
Teacher/Student/Other: Student.
Canon Point: Current Blue-team canon point.
Age: 17.
Grade Level/Class Taught/Job: Freshman in high school.
Dorm or Living Arrangement: Dorm.

Personality:
At her core, despite her somewhat intimidating and clunky demeanor as a Blastoise, Chelone is a gentle-natured Pokémon. Or, she's as gentle as one can be in a bulky body that is designed specifically to crush opponents... She's the type of girl to want to help an opponent to the PokéCenter immediately after battling them. To dote incessantly on her teammates when they're ill. To be anyone's shoulder-to-cry-on. She avoids confrontation as much as possible, as her personality leans towards non-combative in social situations. In a battle setting, Chelone can't help her instinct as a Pokémon bred for battling for young trainers. After battles, though, she's all kisses and hugs

Her gentle nature occasionally leads to something of a passive personality. That is, it's often difficult to object to something if Chelone is concerned it may hurt someone's feeling. More often than not, Chelone will say "yes" to anything. Unfortunately, her passive attitude can land her in situations that are less-than-desirable. She would never object if Jock invited her to a steakhouse, despite her maintaining a mostly-vegan diet. She would never say "no" if Edel needed help studying, even if she was in the middle of something very important. It is being humble to an extreme.

Generally, Chelone tends to be on the side of modesty. She'd much rather gear the conversation towards the other participant, rather than herself. Moreso than that, though; if possible, she often tries to pass her achievements off on someone else. Her report card was straight-As? Must have been her wonderful teachers! She single-handedly took down a team of fire-types? Well, it was all thanks to Blue, clearly. As well, she's very quick to compliment or encourage her friends following their achievements.

Despite her habit of being something of a doormat, there are times when something of a maternal instinct can override the worry regarding hurting someone's feelings. Her attitude can shift to assertively encouraging a friend or teammate to do something as long as she believes it will help them in some way or another. Often, she can come off a bit bossy when she needs to. And if someone hurts her friend's feelings, they're about to get an earful from Chelone. While it may be hard to work up the guts to confront someone, it's worth it if it means defending someone she cares about. As far as she's concerned, the fierce desire to protect her friends is part of being gentle. Additionally, Chelone is not above telling white lies in order to preserve someone's feelings or to keep someone from getting into trouble.

When meeting new people, Chelone is fairly affable. She considers herself outgoing, albeit not exactly an extrovert. She welcomes friendly conversation with strangers, but she doesn't like to be the center of attention. In general, she's incredibly empathetic in conversation. In contrast to her somewhat aloof attitude as a young Squirtle, she's a very emotional (and emotive) Blastoise. And even if she's lying to be conscious of someone else's feelings, Chelone isn't very good at hiding her real feelings with other tells. As well, in regards to the other facets of her personality, one might assume Chelone's the type of girl to be overly formal or polite, too. On the contrary, her speech is fairly casual.

Despite not having any real in-person "feminine influence" as she was growing up, Chelone's always found herself inclined towards the feminine aesthetic. With a preference for bitter flavors, she developed a taste for tea even as a silly little turtle. Tea lead to a vague interest in tea houses, and whatever came along with that. Pink cardigans and puffy dresses, bows and doilies, etc. etc. forever.

Because of her gentle nature, Chelone tends to be somewhat nervous around her fire-type teammates. It's not that she dislikes Jock or Blue's Charizard. On the contrary, she cares about them very very much! She's especially conscious of all the water in her body when she's with them, and prefers that they keep something of a distance from her. She's especially fond of being around grass-types (she'd probably like gardening if someone introduced her to it) and, of course, other water-types.

Having lived by herself for several years in between her original trainer and Blue, Chelone learned to deal with the empty silence by singing quietly to herself. As a Squirtle and Wartortle, this was more like humming. But with her new human form, she now has the opportunity to add some lyrics to her songs. 🎵 La la la, singing about what-ev-er she's doing, hmm~hmm! 🎵

As far as Chelone's relationship with Blue and the rest of her team... She'd like to think it's pretty good! More than anyone else in the world, though, Chelone loves Blue. After meeting Blue, Chelone's personality really began to blossom. Blue was very quick to note that battling was not exactly her thing, and encouraged her more towards picking berries and patching up the rests of the team. Growing up by herself had been undoubtedly a rather lonely affair. Blue brought Chelone companionship for, really, the first time in her life. Just as well, Chelone cares very deeply for her team. Even if they can be something of a handful for a motherly soul, she loves them all very much. In a way, she sees them as an extension of Blue. Therefore, they're perfect in all their unique ways.

Backstory:
When a lab's Wartortle and a lab's other Wartortle love each other very much are encouraged to breed, often an egg is the result. After warming and walking the egg around the lab, a Squirtle will hatch from that egg. Such was the beginning for a small Squirtle with a dark spot on her cheek.

Like every other "starter" Pokémon born in a lab, she was raised for young trainers. Once raised to level 5, she was ready to join someone on their very own adventure. She was scooped up by a young boy who decided not to name her. Within minutes of helping the boy catch a Pidgey, she was released. It was all over before it even began!

Disoriented and, honestly, too young to really understand what had just happened, the Squirtle didn't seem all that bothered by being released so quickly. It was a little weird being outside of the care of humans, but... it wasn't bad, was it?

However, the event left her without any sense of direction. Literally and figuratively. For a few days, she stayed on Route 1, avoiding the path of other trainers. With every intention of heading in the same direction the boy had, she ended up toddling in the complete opposite direction and back into Pallet Town. Ignoring the familiar scenery, she moved on to Route 21. Despite having been born and raised in a lab, the ocean was a welcome sight. She swam east towards Fuchsia City. After maybe a few months in Fuchsia, she then moved further east. Then north. To Vermilion City, where she spent several years of her little turtle life.

The warm coastal city made for a comfortable home for a baby Squirtle. Occasionally, she would stow herself away on the S.S. Aqua and ride to and from Olivine City in Johto. Mostly she swam in the gentle waves of the harbor's ocean and battled with other low-level Pokémon on nearby routes. Eventually, those wimpy battles would lead to the Squirtle leveling herself up enough to evolve into a lovely, fluffy Wartortle.

On a particularly cool morning, a foot connected with her shell. The owner of the foot stumbled gracelessly, and the Wartortle tumbled a foot or two before retreating from inside her shell. Upside down. She moved her little feet, shook her head, but it wasn't enough to move towards the pretty girl with long, brown hair. Nor was it doing anything to flip herself right-side-up again...

A pair of gentle hands were placed on either side of her shell, and she briefly stopped wriggling her legs. When she looked up, the pretty girl was standing over her, and helped to place her back on her feet. The little Wartortle did an impressive walk-in-a-circle to show the young trainer how good she really was at walking on her feet. Very impressive stuff, clearly.

The girl sent out her Clefable, hoping to battle the Wartortle. While she had battled with her fair share of wild Pokémon, it was one of the very few times she'd battled with a human-trained Pokémon. She was surprisingly gentle with the Clefable, not wanting to concern the trainer by hurting her Pokémon. Once the Wartortle was worn down slightly by the fairy type, she was reintroduced to the feeling of being inside a Pokéball.

Her new trainer's name was Blue. Once she was healed up, Blue let the Wartortle pick her own name from a couple of options. Although it may have been the oddest of the bunch, she liked the name Chelone.

From that point, Chelone joined Blue and the rest of her lovely team on the girl's adventure around Kanto. She was surprised to find that Blue was from the same town as her! And, thankfully, it had evidently been just the right time for a little water-dwelling turtle. Although Viridian was Chelone's first-ever Pokémon Gym battle, she did well against the gym leader's ground-type Pokémon. Then helped Blue to Cinnabar Island to kick some fire-type-gym butt. Despite her modesty, Chelone was feeling rather pleased with herself by that point. Shortly after Blue procured all of Kanto's badges, the team took on Victory Road. And, also, Blue's friend Red (whoa he had a turtle too what the heck).

Following the battle with Red, Chelone evolved into a Blastoise. Oh, and also they were champions. Being a Blastoise was quite different from being a Squirtle or a Wartortle. It came with big, bulky water cannons. And a much bigger body, which made climbing into her trainer's lap a lot more difficult. For the first couple of days, her new Blastoise form was entirely unwelcome. The steel cannons were cold, and the water rushed through her body differently, as if through pipes. Slowly, but surely, Chelone came to accept the cannons and her bigger shell. At least she was stronger now.

The team stayed in Kanto for some time following their new champion title. After a trip to the Sevii Islands, Blue relinquished her title to an older trainer named Lance, and the team set off to explore other regions. Johto was nearly familiar. At least, Chelone recognized Olivine. They traveled all over Johto, though, and Chelone got to see the woods of Ecruteak, and the mountains near Blackthorn. How very exciting. Following Johto was Hoenn; a region Chelone had never even heard of. Then to Sinnoh, then to Unova. Chelone spent some of Blue's travels in her Pokéball, or in the PC. Regardless, she got to see a great deal of the Pokémon world.

When they finally returned to Pallet Town, it seemed as though Blue really missed her friend, Red and Green. The team visited them at their school, Smash Academy, then returned to Pallet Town. Although only for a short amount of time. Blue U-turned back to the school and signed herself up.

Amazingly, Blue kept her feet planted there for a couple of years. It was the longest she'd stayed in the same place for as long as Chelone had known her. A few of Blue's other Pokémon took part in learning the practice of humanization, and enrolled in the school alongside her. Some of Red and Green's teams did the same. While the idea appealed to Chelone, she doubted whether or not it would be alright for her to enroll too.

But the thought stuck in her head like a thorn. They visited Kalos. She kept thinking about it. They came back. She considered it. Things kept happening and Chelone kept wondering. Should? She? Do? It?

Maybe. She would try humanization, and see how that went. And so she tried it, and it was... strange. To some degree, the way she looked was influenced by the way she thought of herself, and by the way she perceived the humans around her. She kept shorter than her trainer. Borrowed the arm cannon from a boy she had seen at the school. Her hair was blue, like Red's Wartortle and Green's Blastoise. Her skin was tan, like girls who spent their summers sunbathing. It was strange, it took getting used to, but... she liked it. With some caution, she asked Blue if it was alright to enroll. And, of course, her trainer's answer was yes.

In-Character 3rd person sample:
If it were possible for a turtle to have a dominant "hand," Chelone had always favored her left. And while it was nice to have her dominant hand available, it turned out that having just one made certain things a bit tricky. For example, changing the sheets on her bed or putting on cardigans.

Certain things she thought might be fun to try proved difficult with just one hand, too. In sewing, she gave up before she had even threaded her needle. In cooking and baking, it was much too hard to keep the bowl steady with her right arm while she whisked quickly with her left. Playing most instruments seemed utterly impossible; she didn't even want to try.

There was one thing, though... Something she looked forward to trying, perhaps more than anything else. With just one available hand, she could (slowly, but surely) make herself a cup of tea. To her surprise, the student kitchen was stocked with an overwhelming variety. Many of them claimed to have been imported from somewhere called the Mushroom Kingdom. She would have to look up where that was... With some hesitation, she plucked one of the foreign-looking boxes from the shelf.

She carried the shiny kettle to the faucet, and carefully filled it with what seemed like enough water for just one cup. Was it a little heavy? Mm, oh well. From the faucet, she moved it to one of the burners on the stove. With her hand, she cautiously turned the heat to high. With patience, she waited for the water to boil. She busied herself by picking the pinkest, sweetest looking teacup from the cupboard and placed a teabag in it.

When the kettle whistled, she hastily snatched up a cool dishtowel to shield her hand from the hot metal as she plucked the kettle from the burner. With a surprisingly steady hand, she poured the boiling water over the teabag, instantly filling the room with the fragrant peach tea. Even when she had filled it to the brim, though, there was plenty water leftover. Clumsily, she set the kettle down on the counter and grabbed another teacup. Blue probably wouldn't mind sharing tea with her! With just as much carefulness, Kiki prepared a second cup of tea for her trainer.

... But, just exactly how was she supposed to carry two hot cups of tea back to Blue's room with just one hand?
